On Friday 27 March, we were at Worthing Pier’s Southern Pavilion, celebrating the very best that Worthing and the surrounding area has to offer – recognising anything from a blossoming business through to individuals with a heart of gold.
The event was hosted by Kevin King and Anna Bingham, with awards being handed out in a total of thirteen categories. Take a look below at who won what.

Best Business – with Worthing Town Centre Initiative
WINNER: Thy Will Be Done
Thy Will Be Done offers a fully rounded service for its customers and clients. From will writing, parental responsibility agreements, lasting powers of attorney, protecting savings and investments, probate services and funeral plans. They also hold seminars to educate people and just last year opened a shop in Goring to enable informal, friendly advice for anyone who wants to learn more.
Best Eatery – with Kendricks Coffee
In its first year Polish restaurant ‘Lavenda’ has cemented itself as one of the most popular restaurants in town, being fully booked every night throughout last summer. They were praised for the quality and variety of food, their friendly staff and their clean surroundings.
Best New Business – with Arrow Taxis
WINNER: W Welch Estate Agents
Trading in Worthing for less than a year W Welch have already established themselves in an already busy market. Nominees praised the family business for their ‘friendly & professional’ service and their ‘nothings too much trouble’ attitude. They also received deserved recognition for putting back into the local community with the myriad of charities they support.
Charity Of The Year – with Ian Hart Funeral Services
WINNER: Guild Care
Since 1933 Guild Care has been in Worthing providing an extensive range of innovative services for older people, people with dementia, carers and children with special needs. They continue to go from strength to strength with the recent opening of Haviland House and the Bradbury Wellbeing Centre.
Chris Copsey Gold Award – with Wall Bros Carpets
Based in East Worthing, Reloved provide essential household items and furniture for families and individuals in desperate need of help. They offer work experience, rehabilitation and support to local homeless people via volunteering too.
Courage Award – with One Answer Insurance
WINNER: Adam Tester
In October last year a fire started in the night at Adam’s family home in Goring. He entered back into the burning building 3 times to rescue each one of his young children. His fiancé Shelly told us had it not been for Adams actions the outcome of the fire would have been so much more tragic.
Emergency Services Award – with Freestyle Kitchens and Bedrooms
WINNER: Chris Williams
Local paramedic Chris volunteered to spend more than 6 weeks over Christmas out in Sierra Leone helping with the fight against Ebola. After seeing the pain and suffering the patients went through, but ultimately being able to help, he described his time there as ‘the best and worst thing’ he’s ever done.
Fundraiser of the Year – with Bartholomew Estate Agents
WINNER: Love Your Hospital
Since 2009 Love Your Hospital have been fundraising to ensure that clinicians and nursing staff have the best quality equipment, facilities and training available so they can offer the very best for patients in the community. Last year alone they raised £1million for Worthing, Southlands and St Richards Hospitals.
Lifetime Achievement – with JSPC Computer Services
WINNER: Kath Knight
Kath Knight has been involved in Guiding in Worthing as a volunteer for 50 years this year, and has spent the whole of this time with 2nd Goring Guides based at Elm Grove School on Friday nights. In addition, Kath has also played a huge role in the Petanque in the South East of England for many years.
Parent In A Million – with W Welch Estate Agents
WINNER: Joanne Jones
Joanne is mum Imogen 5, Archie 3 and Zachery 1. Both Imogen and Zachery have been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a life shortening genetic condition. On top of the constant care needed for her children Jo is constantly raising funds and awareness for cystic fibrosis through events.
Sporting Excellence – with Yeomans Toyota
WINNER: Patrick Keane
At just 19 Patrick has taken the mens single title at Angmering Lawn Tennis Club, he’s been chosen to represent the UK at the Gallipoli Games in Istanbul and has a 100% unbeaten record in all his singles games. We predict bug things for Patrick.
Top Teacher – with Worthing Pier’s Southern Pavilion
WINNER: Maria Novis
Maria works at English Martyrs Catholic Primary school in Goring as a teaching assistant. She was nominated by two parents who both find Maria’s support and nurturing of their children with additional needs totally invaluable.
Young Person of the Year – with the Regnante School of Performing Arts
WINNER: Sam Mangoro
16 year old Sam had a cardiac arrest whilst in school in 2014. His life was saved thanks to the school having a defibrillator. Sam know campaigns to get more defibrillators into more schools and ultimately is hoping to get the law changed to ensure every school has this vital piece of life saving equipment.
